It Looks Like A Ruger SR556..........

But it isn't!

It is even better!

It's a Ruger SR762! Piston driven 7.62/.308 platform! I could get excited about this.

It is pretty much out of my price range at MSRP of $2195, but I can dream.

I'd probably save a bit more on get in for a looooooong wait on a Larue Tactical OBR.

I am quite tickled to this day though, by Ruger's new found habit of being cutting edge on some things.

You can sure tell Bill Ruger is not the driving force anymore.

Kindle....Not Just For Romance Novels Anymore!

Knowledge is power! Or so it has been said.
In the case of prepping, this would seem to hold true. While I try to build my skill set when time allows, there is only so much information that my old head will still hold.

For this reason, I need instructions on valuable survival skills written down in black and white. I have amassed a collection of books and magazines over the years, with subjects from Axe to Zombie. They are handy and remember the stuff I forget for me.

But what happens if I need to bug out!? I would need a separate trailer with a 2000 pound towing capacity to haul all these books!
The answer came to me one night when I was talking to my wife……a Kindle! She has one of the basic models, and it holds literally hundreds of books! It is light and thin. Easily packed in a go bag or glove compartment, and uses the same car charger as my cell phone.

I had little experience with the Kindle, other than often mistaking my wife’s face for the backside of one! I had noticed that nearly every smart phone in existence, be it Apple or Droid, had a Kindle App onboard. You could also download a Kindle reader for just about every tablet, laptop, and even the touch style Ipods.

I went online at Amazon.com, and did some cursory searches. I found that about 90% of my hard copy prepping library, as well as thousands more titles, were available for download to the Kindle! Many were either free, or were available for a fraction of what the hard copy title cost.

Figuring I was on to something here, I searched Ebay for a used Kindle. I was able to fairly easily find a Kindle Keyboard model for right at $40 delivered. I went ahead and snagged it. I figured I would test its battery life and storage capacity. If I wasn't pleased, my wife had a spare Kindle child!
Upon arrival, I charged it to 100% and set it aside. Being me, I forgot about it for around 2 weeks. When I finally came back, the battery meter still showed 100%. Good sign!

I then started by downloading a few survival related titles that were either free or around $1 each. You’d be surprised how many there are for that amount. Downloads take just a few seconds, and the books are easily navigated using some simple keystrokes on the device. A nice feature for my aging eyes was the ability to increase font size to be read even without my cheater glasses. Something to also think about in a bug out situation, if you lost your glasses running from zombies…. That book ain’t worth much!

As my little plan seemed to be working out, I decided to go ahead and forge ahead. I found around 50 titles that could be useful in a survival or grid down situation. I added them to my wish list on Amazon. And now, each payday, I download about $20 worth of titles to the Kindle. As of now, I have around 75 books in a folder marked Preps on the device.

An example of what I have are books on gardening, canning, food storage, vehicle maintenance, weapons repair, medical and dental procedures, and a slew of Army manuals. I also threw in some prepping fiction. Some of it because it has good information, some just for reading in the outhouse!

The Kindle is kept in a secure place, charged and checked weekly, and ready to drop in my Go Bag. It can be charged with a car charger or with a small solar charger that I got off of Amazon for $10.

You need not purchase a dedicated Kindle to use this idea. As stated previously, I suspect your everyday use phone has a Kindle app on it already! Something to think about and a handy way to keep some good knowledge easily at hand.

Be ready!

God Bless America

Today I remember. I remember lives lost 12 years ago. I remember lives lost 1 year ago. And I remember lives of brothers and sisters lost in the years in between.
I remember exactly where I was when this path began. I remember the pain. I remember the anger.
I remember my determination. I remember my desire to serve. And I remember, once again, leaving my wife and two young children behind. To do what I felt I must do.
I would do it again today if called.
God Bless America and those who have fallen.

Just Spent Quality Time ...

My son helped me to tear down my bug out bag. Check contents. Replace needed items. Then organize and pack it back.
He wants his own bag now!

Then we checked out the food storage pantry. He asked a lot of questions and was very excited about helping out there.

Love that kid!

Driving Lessons

Started teaching my son the basics of driving today.
It could be a stressful thing. ... but it wasn't!

He is a good learner and listened well to what I had to say. We got home safe and still speaking to reach other.

Am I thrilled that he will soon be driving?? Well. .. no!
But there is not one thing I can do to delay this rite of passage.

So I'll give him the best instruction I can and pay for the best.

Simple....

I own many things...some that are considered quite valuable.
None have a value anywhere near to the things given to me by a loving God!

Think I may be mobile....

Just had to switch to a non Google app.
Go figure!

Testing

Testing...

Trying to go mobile....

Trying to find the best way to do updates when I can't use a laptop. Honestly... the blogspot phone apps just suck!

I can't even get the Blogger app to accept the fact that I have a current account!

But I'm going to keep trying to find a decent way to post updates. ..

Then my goal is daily posts to the blog. ...

Time Keeps On Passing...

Way back in the days of yore, I vaguely remember receiving my driver's license for the first time. It was a time of great things!
My first truck was a 1965 Ford F100 that my Father had special ordered direct from the manufacturer, and driven for many years.
He then passed it on to me.

So yesterday, in a rite of passage, that same truck was washed and cleaned with much care....and then it became my son's first truck. The third generation has taken over.

Wow, I'm old! But what a good day!

Uncle Ted's Ammo

Picked up some of Ted Nugent's own brand of ammunition this weekend.

I happened across some 10mm loads on a gun shop shelf.

I bought it simply because it said Nugent on the box and on the head stamp.

That is just cool!

I tested some of it in my Colt Delta ...... my hand still hurts!

I shouldn't have expected anything less than over the top from Ted Nugent ammo!

Ammo...

It does appear that ammo is beginning to flow somewhat again.

Found 9mm today in good supply, plenty of 45acp and 40S&W.

22LR is another story entirely though. By far the toughest to find and by far the most sought after!

Kidney Stones

Don't like them...don't want them....can't get rid of them!

They suck. Take it from me!

Been shot, stabbed, beat unconscious, broken bones, wrecked numerous cars.

Will take any of the above over the stones!

Savage MK2 FV-SR

I tested one thoroughly yesterday!

Both with and without a YHM Mite suppressor on it. I was very pleased with the little rifle.

It is handy with the short fluted barrel, as well as being quite lightweight. It will likely serve as my daughters 4H rifle for shooting steel.

And in the off season....will likely serve as my truck gun for eliminating random pests and garden intruders.

Suggested retail is $260.

It is well worth it in my opinion.

Some Facts:

Barrel: 16.5 " threaded heavy profile. Twist Rate: 1:16
5 round magazine, included scope mounting rail.

Seriously??!!

"It's time to question laws that senselessly expand the concept of self-defense and sow dangerous conflict in our neighborhoods."

This was a quote by United States Attorney General Eric Holder.

If I was unaware of his numerous previously spewed idiotic statements, I would have been unable to believe this one.

First of all.....The right to safety and self defense is a God given right. It is not granted to us by those elitist fools in D.C.
We don't get to set a "reasonable" level of self defense for our citizens. They are either safe or they are not.

And secondly, this quote from a man who has done more to harm the safety and welfare of our citizens than any AG in history!?
I never thought anyone would make Janet Reno seem like a law and order proponent!

God help us all!

Oathkeepers...Not A Bunch of Wackos!

The group known as Oathkeepers. Branded by the left wing as a group of extremists, nutjobs, or even terrorists.

What they actually are....Those currently or formerly in military service or law enforcement.
What they actually believe....that the oath they swore upon induction does not expire when their tour of duty ends. That the Constitution is a living document which must not be bypassed or ignored.

This is a list of things an Oathkeeper will not do......

1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.
2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people
3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal.
4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.
5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.
6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.
7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.
8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control."
9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.
10.We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

Don't sound like terrorists to me!

No News Weekends.......

The Zimmerman verdict came in, and despite my prediction, he was acquitted.

For that I'm glad. But all the main stream media gnashing of teeth is just ridiculous!

I may take a page from the Thunder Ranch book of Clint and Heidi and institute "No News Weekends" at my home.

It gives a break from the idiocy, and allows focus on more important things in life!

Friday, July 12, 2013

Based upon facts, the Zimmerman verdict would be quick and easy.....

However, I seriously doubt facts will have much bearing on the outcome.

He will be found guilty of one of the multiple choice charges. Riots will still occur. And justice will once again fail due to politics and white man's guilt.
