After the debut of the long ....long...awaited ACR rifle....things have gotten ugly!!
The rifle was prototyped by Magpul, and sold/leased to Bushmaster for production. The Magpul estimate was a MSRP of around $1500. That may have been a bit unrealistic, but it was put out there in the public.
Now, Bushmaster is estimating the base rifle at closer to $3000!
I have no idea whether that is inflated, they are losing money, or just playing a practical joke. Whatever the case......buyers are not happy!!
There is a feeding frenzy on a number of sites on the web. This one at AR15.com is one of the milder!
As I had no desire to have one of these rifles....I have no real dog in this fight. The price does seem rather high. Especially considering we are in the post buying frenzy slump after the undprecedented buying boom caused by Obama's election. And also taking into account the economy now and it's likely worsening in the future.
I do know that MSRP is rarely what a buyer actually pays. The Ruger SR-556 was MSRP'ed at $1995 originally, and met with much gnashing of teeth!. But most, mine included, were leaving stores for under $1500.
Of Course.....even at that discount percentage, you are still looking at around $2200 for the ACR!
I await further developments!
